A quick look at the Phabulous events of 06-07

Christmas Carol Singing - £300 - December 2006

Straight after school on the last day of the term the Phabers of 06/07 met up in the Harlequin, Watford, to do our share of enhancing the Christmas spirit!  However our primary aim was to raise awareness of Phab and hopefully get some donations from the public.  In view of the fact that this was our first fund raising event we were all nervous, yet looking forward to the prospect of spreading the Phab word!  The girls kindly provided us with endless sheets of carols ranging from “Rudolph” to “The twelve days of Christmas”.  The girls roared into action singing the most jolly of tunes leaving the boys to follow in their wake!  But us boys were not going to miss out on the action and soon, the early reservations disappeared and the fellows joined in with their own tunes of “Rudolf the red nose reindeer…”.  Having created the wondrous atmosphere with our, albeit, dodgy singing, allowed people to stop and notice us and give us donations to help our valuable cause.  Three or four hours later however, our voices hoarse, we called it a day with a decent collection of money but more importantly creating more awareness for Phab the girls and boys went their merry ways home – still humming “Santa Claus is coming to town…!“

Candy Canes - £250 - December 2006

The team put their heads together to come up with different fund raising ideas and decided to sell candy canes at both St Helens and Taylors’.  This was a new event, which proved to be highly successful.  The idea behind it was not unlike the “the Valentine’s Day roses and rolos”.  Boys and girls from both schools were offered to send candy canes to their loved ones!  And lots of people jumped at the chance to send candy canes as secret admirers.  Also it was a great opportunity for pranksters to get their revenge on their friends and enemies!  Even teachers got in to the act with rumours that a certain maths teacher sent himself 2 candy canes!

Rolos and Roses - Valentines - £300 -February 2007

Selling the rolos and roses at lunch times was a huge amount of fun, watching boys spilling out the pound coins to send the girls their presents.  Every year we have boys and girls waiting anxiously to see if they get a token of affection or love so they can brag to their friends or wondering whom they might have got it from.  Another one of our excellent events that has always produced a great response from the boys and the girls.  Surprisingly roughly sixty roses were sent to St Helen’s but a mere six or so sent from them… this ought to be the subject of a Psychology research paper perhaps?

Mufti Day: £1200 + £300 - March 2007

The day began with two Phab members entertaining 800 boys on a Friday assembly, giving us a brief overview of what Phab is really like and the emotions one faces during the Phab week. The entertainment really “hottened” up with 4 upper sixth formers doing a dance, which they had done at the previous years Phab revue.  The school really took to their highly practiced and hilarious routine and they will be back on the 16th of March, continuing their “OK NO” dance routine which is just one of the great routines in the show.  (Incidentally the video is available on the boys K drive). The day, which already had people wearing their Mufti clothes to raise money for Phab had another treat to look forward to.  Krispy Kremes doughnuts!  Another method to raise more money to get to our target of £8000.  Amazingly 480 doughnuts disappeared within the first 7 minutes on being sold!  A highly profitable day for the cause.

Other events lined up:
    • Phab football – a chance to play against the Phab team
    • Playing lacrosse at St Helens (in skirts)

AND, of course, the Phab revue on the 16th of March.  We have been holding auditions in the month of February, with auditions from stand up comedians, music bands and even a pie eating competition.  Also the Phab team has got together and decided to pick themes for this years Phab revue and so far we have “Phab TV” where we try and rip it out of TV shows.  This idea was greatly backed up, probably because the only other option we had was “High School Musical” which ALL the boys were dead set against!  Tickets are on sale now so have your wallets and money saved up as this years show will be one to remember.  £7 for Divs and above only.
