Arkwright scholarships hat trick! 2006

Three of the Lower Sixth have been awarded prestigious Arkwright Scholarships for excellence in Design and Technology. Some 173 scholarships were distributed amongst 134 schools, so in winning three, the boys have demonstrated yet again how strong Taylors' is in D & T; we have had at least one scholar every year since the scheme was introduced. Head of Design and Technology, John Coleman, commented: "winning one award is quite an achievement for us - winning three is almost unheard of!"

The Arkwright Foundation exists to foster young British engineering talent and trhe boys' success means that they will be sponsored through both school and university by Lloyds Register, one of the many companies that support the Foundation’s work.

All three boys had to beat off some tough competition before being chosen. It was a gruelling event. They had to make a presentation to the Foundation’s Board about their current projects, sit a Design exam and finally impress the Board at interview. These boys follow in the footsteps of many other Merchant Taylors' boys who have won Arkwright Scholarships.
