Biology

The Biology Department at Merchant Taylors' School prides itself in giving pupils the best opportunities to gain the highest possible grades at GCSE, AS and A2, in a friendly yet focussed atmosphere.

The majority of candidates at A2 study Biology for the purpose of pursuing a career in Medicine or Dentistry and in the main their ambition is fulfilled. Teaching at AS and A2 is shared between 2 teachers and pupils are given many practical opportunities to help them achieve maximum marks in coursework.

Biologists from the department have earned the status of 'Top School 2008' as awarded by the Institute of Biology Olympiad Committee for the second time in 5 years. Five pupils were awarded Gold Medals and two Silver. Four pupils qualified for the second round and from this Leo Otsuki and Anthony Martinelli were selected for the final round held at Birmingham University. Anthony Martinelli was selected to represent the United Kingdom from the final round qualifiers in the International Olympiad to be held in Mumbai during the second week of July.
