ChessThe club meets officially on Tuesdays and Thursdays to practice, though boards and pieces are available during any lunchtime. There is a pleasant social atmosphere; generally (but not always!) chess is a nice relaxing way to unwind in the lunch hour. The school runs a knockout chess cup in the autumn term, open to all pupils, incorporating around 60 entrants. There is also a keenly contested House Chess competition, with timed matches played in front of partisan supporters. M R Baker
