Music Ensembles

Chamber Music
Various string quartets, wind and brass ensembles rehearse each week in school. More are always welcome… saxophone groups, clarinet choir, guitar ensemble, recorder consort, tuba quartet, steel band…? The possibilities are endless.

The Chamber Orchestra
The top string players with wind and brass by invitation when required. An exclusive group featuring some of the schools' top musicians.

The Concert Band
The top band for wind, brass and percussion players of grade 4 standard and above. Auditions in some sections. A very wide range of music from Holst, Vaughan Williams and Sousa to the latest movie themes.

The Dixieland Band
A traditional Dixieland Band with one player to each part. Scope for another group to start if players are interested. Trumpet, Saxophone, Clarinet, Trombone, Piano, Bass and Drums needed.

Plaine and Easie Voyces
A small group of keen and expert singers most of whom study singing at school. They have made a CD and often sing at events outside school.

The Merchant Taylors' School Choir
The School Choir sings at concerts and joins with the parents' Choral Society and singers from other schools to perform a large scale work with professional orchestra and soloists in the Spring. The choir leads the singing at assembly, and sings for the school Carol Service and a number of functions during the year both in school and in the City of London. Cathedral visits and a tour are planned

The Senior Orchestra and Merchant Taylors' St Helen's Orchestra
The school's top orchestra run jointly with St Helen's for the Spring Term. A good Grade 5 standard is essential and all members are auditioned. Limited places for wind and brass players.

The String Orchestra
For string players with grade 2-5. This is the second string orchestra from which players will move on to the chamber and/or senior orchestra when vacancies occur if they have reached the required standard.

The Swing Band - Dixieland & Swing Band
The Big Band sound for players with some experience. New players are always welcome.

The Wind Band
The band for wind, brass and percussion players of about grade 2 to 4 standard . Popular tunes and classical arrangements. The obvious place to prepare for a place in the Concert Band.
