Music ScholarshipsMusic awards are offered annually when you enter the school (that is, when you are 11, 13 or 16 years old). They include 1 scholarship of up to 25% of the school fees, 1 scholarship of up to 15%, and 2 exhibitions of up to 10% of the fees. If you win an award you receive free instrumental and/or singing tuition. Additional awards of free tuition may be made if there are more boys of sufficient merit. The Director of Music is Richard Hobson and he is happy to meet prospective candidates and answer enquiries at any stage. In fact, if you want to be considered for a music award, your parents should see this as an important part of the whole procedure. At 13+ the best idea is for prospective candidates to arrange for an appointment with Mr. Hobson to coincide with their academic interview (in September or October). Usually by this stage you will have been recommended by your present Head of Music. The examination is held in February, and a successful candidate will be required to reach the necessary standard in the academic Scholarship or Entrance examination held in January of the year in which he comes for the Music Scholarship.
