Why MTS?

MTS from the air - 2005

What makes Merchant Taylors’ different and special? If you talk to our pupils, parents or teachers, you will get something of a feel for this – particularly the emphasis on individual care and the importance we place on participating to the full in school life.  We not only provide a first class formal education, as our exam results and 'league table' placings show year after year, but we are a happy school - not an 'exam factory' and it remains what a school should be - a place where boys can spend the happiest days of their lives. MTS - because boys are happiest when they're stretched!

Whenever you enter the school, you will need to show an aptitude for learning and how good you are will be tested in an exam.

However, at MTS we believe that a good education is an all-round education.

MTS - because boys are happiest when they're stretched

We have fantastic facilities and offer you fantastic opportunities, so you need to be the sort of boy who wants to make the most of these opportunities. The sort of boy who contributes as much as they can to school life and gets the most they can out of it.

MTS sets its own examinations in all Common Entrance subjects and the scholarship examination is at the same time. Some scholarship candidates will be invited back for further interviews.

16+ Entry

MTS takes a small number of boys into the Sixth Form.

If you want to join the School you need to be registered by 1st January of the year of entry. The entry procedure takes place in the Spring Term.

Candidates will be asked to sit short tests of their ability in the subjects they wish to study, followed by interviews, and offers may subsequently be made.
