Asian Cultural Show

The Asian Cultural Society organises an annual extravaganza to celebrate Asian Culture and raise money for charity. The 2006 show was in support of Macmillan Cancer Relief. charity

The show is organised in partnership with the girls from Northwood College and acts as a showcase for all aspects of South Asian and Oriental culture. Both boys and girls take on a high level of responsibility as they co-ordinate dances, fashion shows, drama sketches and music.

They must also organise catering for spectators, ticketing and sponsorship. It is a fantastic celebration of Asian culture in the widest sense with demand for tickets always outstripping supply.

Phantom of the Okra: Asian Cultural Show 2006

Bora Bora

MTS boys and Northwood College girls performed Phantom of the Okra to packed houses on November 10 and 11, raising nearly £6K in support of the Macmillan Cancer Fund. Many thanks to all the performers, who put a tremendous amount into the show.

Committee Clap

This was the first year that – rather than perform a series of unconnected skits and dances – everything was integrated within the general concept of the Phantom of the Opera - an epic tale of a director in search of his beloved leading actress. All songs, sketches, dance routines and acting were integrated into this overarching theme.

Important dance

In Phantom of the Okra, we wanted to strike a balance between various themes: East versus West; modern versus traditional; drama versus comedy. Using a variety of songs, with classics such as Tujhe Dekha To Ye Jaana Sanam and Kal Ho Naa Ho as well as more modern melodies, such as My Love and Diddy Rock, we were able to appeal to people of all ages.

The singers

Thanks to the Asian Cultural Committee: Amish Chotai (Deputy Chairman), Mihir Kelshiker, Sunjiv Shah, Nishal Patel, Harshil Arora, Veeraj Haria-Shah, for the countless hours of hard work they put in and thanks too to all who served on the Northwood College Committee.
