Community ServiceEvery Friday afternoon, boys in the Community Service group go out into the local community in the school minibuses and provide services to those in need. The boys go in to old peoples' homes and a home for adults who are mentally handicapped. They spend time with them chatting, reading, playing games (bingo is a favourite) and occasionally play the piano. On field Days the boys go to different placements, such as primary schools, schools for the mentally disabled, where they help in the classroom with reading, painting, sport and gardening. Though the work may often be simple enough, it sets real challenges in terms of relating to people from very different backgrounds and generations; plus you learn about yourself in the process. This is open mostly to boys in the Divisions and 5th form (Years 10 and 11). Mrs F. S. Teskey. |
