The Debating SocietyDispute the existence of God. Abolish private education. Call for the resignation of the Prime Minister. Opt to introduce Proportional Representation. Defend the objective validity of art, or simply defend your right to eat at McDonald’s. Debate at Merchant Taylors’ offers pupils the opportunity to learn articulate their ideas/feelings on a variety of topics and to formulate arguments in a variety of formal styles. The society is an active one meeting fortnightly on Friday lunchtimes and everyone from 4th's upwards are encouraged to attend. We compete at the English Speaking Union, the Debate Chamber and the Oxford and Cambridge School's debating competitions. Mrs N Bigden |
