Fives at MTS

Fives is offered as a Games Option and an Extra Curricular Club.  Fives takes place throughout the year, with fixtures all played in the spring. All age groups are welcome. There are house competitions, games against schools and national championships with teams being put out at all age groups.

Fives tests your speed, strength and stamina!

The season starts in earnest in January. This year the West of England championships were held at Sherborne, with twelve boys entering. Particular praise should go to Daniel Hooker who stood in at the last minute and ended up playing boys up to three years his senior.

The main season was successful with a number of wins for the First and Under 16 teams. The retaining of the Centenary Cup against Bedford was a particular high point, as this fixture has been played since 1884.

The National Schools’ Championships were again at St. Paul’s during the Easter break. Keir Sloan did well in the singles before losing a close game to one of the dominant St. Paul's side. Nick Hemming-Brown and Shaun Miller both advanced in the plate competition, with Nick losing out in the final. In the colts competition Curran Choudhry produced an excellent performance to win the singles plate.

Overall this year has been very encouraging with a greater number of boys participating.
