30 ROUNDS
We were hurried down to a situation of which the sirens sounded, the screams shrieked and were causing a raucous of anticipation. We immediately ran over to the scene and found many frightened and injured people. We were stretched as we had to think on the spot and be flexible to the situation, whilst remaining calm. I was constantly talking to the casualty with the intention of keeping her calm in order to deal with the situation as efficiently as possible. She seemed to be in shock and had severe burns which made it hard for me to evacuate her out of the scene immediately so she wouldn’t be exposed to any more danger. I needed her to move quickly because there were numerous hazards surrounding where she was lying but she was very hesitant to move. I managed to assist her out of the terrifying scenario and lie her down to relieve any stress and potential pain. I continued to comfort her and asked a colleague to call the ambulance. I looked around and heard Praniel, the IC, giving us instructions to follow in order to deal with the situation as effectively and smoothly as possible. All the casualties were being taken care of as we really gelled as a team and displayed great teamwork. I also had my casualties’ legs raised to get the blood flowing to her brain and relieve her shock. We collectively kept the casualties warm using the blankets whilst being assessed by a number of people. The high-quality teaching standards from my teachers, Andy Ingate and Sam Lee, was reflected in our performances as we had the knowledge of what to do in every scenario. Overall, it was very nerve racking but thrilling experience of which I have learnt a lot. This is because it is relatable to every-day scenarios and I am glad to obtain the knowledge of how to cope with these situations is the future.
