Taylorian 2020
100 Connoisseurs will recall Greenidge and Haynes. The U14Cs have Wickramarachchi Appuhamilage and Haynes, both of whom kept up a lively tempo, hitting singles and boundaries in an untroubled fashion to secure victory with time to spare. Thus an unbeaten season now draws to a close. There have been some exceptional memories. In each game a different player has stepped up to see the team home, and we have been cheered on by wonderful parental and grandparental support. Many congratulations, gentlemen, and thank you to Basti Mansfield for captaining the side. 2019 will definitely be a season to savour! Half Term Summary: Played 3, Won 3. Popat, H. Salam, Q. Wang, S. Wickramarachchi Appuhamilage. U14D One match was played in the second half of term. A competitive performance from the U14D with both bat and ball put MTS in pole position before intensity waned in the field and Harrow were allowed back into the game. Josh Odegbami top scored with a confident knock of 25, ably support - ed by Jayan Patel (14) at the crease, with several others contributing to a respectable score at the halfway point. Early wickets in the field gave hope of victory, but once Harrow’s best bat was allowed to open up thanks to a few sloppy fields, the momen - tum shifted, and MTS were inched out at the end. But a good team performance, played in the right spirit, with much to come from this promising outfit. Ms L Smith and Dr M I Beacham Squad: S. Amin, G. Anpalagan, S. Batting and bowling with ruthless consistency and flair, they managed to extend their winning streak to nine with crushing victories over Bedford and St Albans before coming up against MCS towards the end of term. This was an excellent challenge, where it became evident that they were playing against a team equivalent to them in talent, and MTS eventually fell 20 runs short in their chase. This match was good preparation for the London Schools Final, where the 13As came up against Avanti House School. After winning the toss the MTS captain, Ed Bennett, decided to bat. Classy openers Dilan Reddy and Aaryan Bist needed no further encouragement to drop anchor and spend time at the crease against a very strong bowling attack. They put on 92 together for the opening wicket. Devesh Rana and Faaris Ahmed then brilliantly closed the innings with some powerful strokeplay, which allowed Merchant Taylors’ to reach a massive 141/3 after their 25 overs. Already on the front foot, the bowlers came out with their tails high. With the help of some flawless slow left-arm spin from Jacob Rose, who took 4 wickets, Avanti House only managed a score of 51 all out in reply. Another crushing victory sums up a record-breaking season for the U13As. They should be proud of what they have achieved. Mr M S T Hughes Squad: A. Bist, D. Reddy, F. Ahmed, D. Rana, E. Bennett, G.
