As part of our thriving Modern Languages programme, we offer a variety of exchanges to boys studying French, German and Spanish. There are two French exchanges to Paris, a German exchange to Hamburg and a Spanish exchange to Extremadura. The take-up has been excellent for these trips and boys report learning so much as a result; both linguistically but also in terms of their own characters as they adapt to life in a foreign culture.

In addition we are now offering an exchange to Lower 6th Formers (year 12) with Camberwell Grammar School in Australia. The cycle starts with boys from Camberwell Grammar coming to us at the start of the Spring term. MTS boys then fly to Australia at the end of the Summer term. The boys stay with their exchange partners for up to four weeks attending school and experiencing a different way of life. For our boys, it is a good way to end a busy Lower 6th year and to have a much needed break before the rigours of the Upper 6th year kick in. For further details, please contact Mr Pat Capel

Trips at Merchant Taylors’ are hugely popular with a great variety of destinations (including Cuba, Nepal, West Indies, Argentina, Brazil, China, Madagascar in recent years). The exchanges complement these and give boys the chance to gain a deeper appreciation of other cultures.
