Merchant Taylors’ School Celebrates its Best Ever A-Level Results
Merchant Taylors' celebrated its best ever A-Level examination results today with 36% of grades being the coveted A*, a new record.
More than one in eight Taylors' students opened their results to see a "clean-sweep" of only A*s, and well over half (56%) had at least one A* to their name. Nearly half (48%) of this year's pupils had all their subjects marked as A or A*.
71% of grades achieved were A*-A and 92% of grades were A*-B.
Nine boys were accepted to study at Oxbridge and a further nine secured places to study Medicine. Over three quarters of the year group achieved the grades required for their first choice of university and we expect all boys to have secured a university place very shortly.
There were exceptional performances from many departments with 83% of Spanish examinations scoring A* closely followed by 75% for the Art Department and 73% in Further Maths. In Physics 86% of students took an A* or A and in Maths the figure was 70%.
We are particularly proud that among our highest performing students were a number whose education at Taylors’ was supported by bursary funding. Students with bursaries achieved a clutch of A* grades, places at especially prestigious institutions – including Imperial College, Warwick, UCL and Durham – and on some of the most competitive courses.
Head Master Simon Everson said: "I am proud of the work these young men have put in to their academic studies - and these results are a testament to their serious dedication - but most of all I am delighted at how these pupils have developed from the day they joined us into mature individuals who are both interested and interesting. We get our great results by pushing everything else at Taylors’: we believe that if you only focus on the academics you miss out on the most important part of an education."
