Staff Spotlight: Adam Clarke, Senior Master & Teacher of Physics

Our pupils do amazing things every single day, but behind those achievements are all of the hardworking staff here at Merchant Taylors' School. In Staff Spotlights we look to explore the diverse backgrounds and skills of the people who make Merchant Taylors' a great place to be. This week we hear from Adam Clarke, Senior Master, Teacher of Physics

When did you join Merchant Taylors'?

January 2001

Tell us about your subject. What excites you about it? How did you get into it?

I teach Physics and enjoy the way that applying a few basic problems allows for complicated problems to be solved. To be honest I am sure not how I got into it as if I had carried on with my best subjects at O-level, Physics would not have made the cut!

What are you most proud of outside of your work at school?

Mmm, tricky. I don't know how it happened, but I secured a cameo role in a film a few years ago. The way it was finally cropped means you can't so easily tell when I appear, but I am told it was very popular in Iraq!

What did you study at A-Level?

Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Further Maths and General Studies. That last one often raises an eyebrow, but back in the day it was a very good test of one's all round education.

What piece of media would you recommend and why?

This week commemorates the 80th Anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, so I recommend Schindler's list as a reminder of what humanity is capable and why it is important that good people do what they can to prevent terrible things happening.
