Come Join Carnegie Club!

As a collaborative effort between the library and English department, we have once again begun to shadow the Carnegie shortlist. This prestigious children’s book award is at the heart of a national reading for pleasure drive and exposes students to a range of the very highest quality of children’s writing.

Past winners of the award include: Arthur Ransome, C.S. Lewis, Terry Pratchett, Philip Pullman, Noel Streatfeild, Sally Gardner and Elizabeth Acevedo. We will be reading one book per fortnight and meeting in the library every other Monday lunchtime to discuss our reading. Students are also encouraged to submit their own reviews of the books which are published on the official Carnegie website. We are proud to report that we have had reviews by several students published in this manner over the past few years.

Our students also have access to educational resources which complement the shortlist and help to stretch and challenge our boys. The final session of this club will end with a trip to St Helen’s, where we will vote for our favourite book from the shortlist before submitting our vote to Carnegie for their consideration of the Shadowers’ Choice Award. Many books on the shortlist are available to borrow from the library in either hard or digital format, and any student in the Lower School is very welcome to join.

Please see Mrs South or Ms Fitzpatrick for further details.
