Charity Sleep Out

On Friday 31st January, the Charity Drive Team hosted our annual sleepout, with an impressive 63 students from the Third Form to the Upper Sixth Form participating to raise awareness for homelessness. The evening included activities like board games and football in the Sports Hall before students set up makeshift shelters to sleep in across the school using scraps of stored cardboard and Sellotape.

Charity Sleep Out

Although the weather was milder than in previous years, it still served as a powerful reminder of the privilege of having a warm bed to return to each day. After a restless night, we woke at 6 a.m. and packed up. For many of us in our final year, this was undoubtedly one of the most memorable sleepouts yet, and we encourage others to take part and contribute to this initiative next year.

The main point of this event was to not only raise awareness but also raise money for New Hope, a charity devoted to helping the homeless get off their feet.  We have raised over £750 this year.

New Hope (previously Watford New Hope Trust) is a Watford-based charity that aims to provide support for homeless and vulnerably-housed individuals. Founded by Janet Hosier and Sheila Meaning (1990), New Hope offers help and advice for those sleeping rough (and for relatives/friends of homeless individuals). They operate an emergency phone line 24/7 and a support centre named The Haven, where they provide access to personal items, outreach services and shower and laundry facilities. All funds raised during the Sleep Out will be donated to New Hope, a charity dependent on the support of the local community.

A big thank you to Mrs. Hall and the teachers who joined us and helped make the event possible!
