Book Boffz Quizzing on Quotes

This week the Book Boffz enjoyed playing “The Game of Quotes,” which proved to be the perfect antidote for a warm and busy week. The activity provided a good balance of quiet reading time and engaging fun, making it an ideal way for the participants to relax and round off the week whilst still enjoying their love of literature.
In “The Game of Quotes,” Book Boffz members were given a selection of books to choose from, and a period of 3 1/2 minutes to immerse themselves in the stories. When the reading time ended, a prompt was revealed, and the participants had 1 1/2 minutes to scour the pages they had read, searching for the perfect word, phrase, or sentence to respond to the prompt.
Prompts included “The worst possible birthday present,” “The title of a new murder mystery,” and “A caption for a picture of US President Donald Trump (looking rather orange).” These prompts led to some quick and humorous thinking from the Book Boffz. For the worst possible birthday present, the responses ranged from the curious “cylinders bound with wire” to the painful “blisters on my hands and scrapes on my knees.” One member even offered the chilling scenario of “21 of the world’s 25 most poisonous snakes!” Meanwhile, the caption for the image of Donald Trump caused much laughter as the Book Boffz enjoyed each other’s quick wit and clever wordplay. Mr Robinson (tasked with the challenging job of selecting the winner of each round) ultimately chose “tricks and gibberish”, which encapsulated the collective amusement felt by the group.
As always, the Book Boffz enjoyed biscuits (and the added bonus of a slice of birthday cake) during the session. The Book Boffz meet weekly on Fridays at 3.45pm in the Junior Library. Thirds and Upper Thirds who enjoy books and reading are very welcome to join in the fun.
