Staff Spotlight -Debra Shearman, MTS School Receptionist

Our pupils do amazing things every single day, but behind those achievements are all of the hardworking staff here at Merchant Taylors' School. In Staff Spotlights we look to explore the diverse backgrounds and skills of the people who make Merchant Taylors' a great place to be. This week we hear from Debra Shearman, MTS School Receptionist

When did you join Merchant Taylors'?

I joined as a Matron at the Manor of the Rose Boarding House in 1996 after previously working for Marconi Space and Defence as a Draughtsperson, John Lewis, Fenwick and Ikea.

Tell us about your subject. What excites you about it? How did you get into it?

I love being outdoors in nature,  exercise and cooking and nutrition so walking and running fit me well.  I am a qualified Therapeutic Counsellor volunteering for Mind and I have been a qualified First Aider for the past 30 years.

What are you most proud of outside of your work at school?

My daughter, four Grandchildren and stray cat Rodney who has been visiting me (for food) for the past 7 years!

What did you study at A-Level?

I studied Psychology, Chemistry and Biology.

What piece of media would you recommend and why?

I would recommend the Podcasts App particularly the ‘Happiness Lab’ as it has guests with inspiring stories and talks about the science of well-being and being happy.
