Junior History Club Castle Competition 2025

This term, nearly 20 boys took on the challenge of building an historically accurate Medieval castle as part of the annual Junior History Club competition. They spent lots of time over in DT, Art and at home creating some truly magnificent examples of motte and bailey, square keep and concentric castles. Thanks to the DT and Art departments here, for providing both the space and assistance to the competitors.

The judge was incredibly impressed with the exceedingly high standard; so much so, that this year, there are a number of joint winners. In 3rd place - with a square keep design that impressed with its scale, simple but effective construction and accuracy - was Rian V. (U3rds) and Alexander B. (U3rds). Also in 3rd place, with a motte and bailey which was striking for its artistry and presentation, was Leo M. (3rds).

In 2nd place with a very accurate and structurally sound concentric castle was Hrim D. (4ths). Finally, in 1st place was Krish A. (U3rds). His submission offered a brilliant motte and bailey. Notably, the accuracy, use of material, scale and neatness all highly impressed the judge. Sharing 1st place was Devan G. (U3rds), whose accurate and uniquely constructed square keep with lots of extra features and a working drawbridge was remarkable.

All boys who took part will have their castle displayed on open day in September, where a public vote will take place to award one with the open day award. Following this, all boys will receive certificates, and the winning castle builders will receive their prizes.

Huge congratulations to the boys on such a fine array of entries.
