Independent Schools' Tennis Championships at Eton College

For the third consecutive year, MTS proudly took part in the annual Independent Schools' Tennis Championships held at Eton College, organised by the Independent Schools Tennis Association (ISTA).

The MTS Tennis Team continues to go from strength to strength, with both participation and the standard of play steadily rising.

This year, we were delighted to take eight boys to Eton. Representing MTS in the Youll Cup (U19 category) were:

  • Jim G. (L6th)
  • James G. (5th)
  • Neel K. (L6th)
  • Amrit S. (L6th)

Each pair played a best-of-three set match against their counterparts from Collegiate School, Bristol. Both MTS pairs delivered confident performances, securing straight-set victories with scores of 7–5, 6–4 and 6–0, 6–4, advancing directly to the next round.

Representing MTS in the Thomas Bowl (U15 category) were:

  • MTS Team 1
    • Jai H (4th)
    • Mateus P (4th)
  • MTS Team 2
    • Ayngaran M (U3rd)a
    • Rian V (U3rd)

Notably, Ayngaran and Rian were the youngest competitors in their entire category, an impressive achievement in itself.

The Thomas Bowl began with a round-robin format, with each match played as a single set.

  • MTS Team 1 secured victories against King Edward’s School (5–0) and Collegiate School (5–3). Despite their strong start, they faced tough competition and were narrowly defeated by King Edward’s School, Birmingham (2–5), Eltham College (2–5), and a particularly strong KCS Wimbledon side (1–5).
  • MTS Team 2 delivered an outstanding performance, finishing second in their group after winning against Westminster School (5–1) and St George’s Weybridge (5–3). This earned them a place in the Thomas Bowl knockout stage, where they narrowly lost to Yarm School in a thrilling match that ended 7–6, 11–9 in the tie-break.

All the boys demonstrated exceptional skill, composure, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. Their success is a testament to their dedication and the hard work they have put in all year. Many of them are regulars in the newly formed Performance Squad, the well-established Junior Tennis Club, and consistently attend their Games sessions.

A heartfelt thank you to all the parents who supported their sons on what turned out to be a very hot Sunday  with their presence, encouragement, and generous supply of snacks and drinks.
