Scissorum Issue 231

September 29 2017 Weekly Newsletter 10 May 2019 02 From the Head Master This Week Merchant Taylors’ This year we have celebrated a number of successes in various Science Olympiads and in this edition I am delighted to see featured one of our recent alumni who has used his scientific grounding at Merchant Taylors’ to the very best effect. Daniel Sieradzki (Class of 2014) is spearheading efforts by a number of Astronautics and Space Engineering students to design, build and launch a rocket to fly to 10,000 ft. I would commend to you his article on page 11 where he elaborates on the project. I would like to congratulate all the cast and crew of this year’s junior play, The Tempest. The Studio Theatre was transformed into a magical island as the boys brought Shakespeare’s enchanting play to life. It was highly entertaining and illustrated an impressive array of acting talent in the Lower School - many thanks to Ms Clarke for directing an excellent production. This week we welcomed the Sri Lanka cricket team as they will be using Merchant Taylors’ as a training base before the Cricket World Cup. The players will also be putting on masterclasses for our boys and presenting prizes. The fact that four countries wanted to train at MTS is a tribute to the efforts of our cricket coaches and brilliant Ground Staff who ensure our infrastructure is of the highest order. The link with Sri Lanka was forged on the recent trip there and we are very happy to be able to reciprocate the fine hospitality we enjoyed on tour. Open Day 11 th May 2019 10.00-12.30 Tomorrow
