Welcome to Merchant Taylors'

Merchant Taylors' is an independent day school of more than 800 students. Taylors' is well-known for the high academic and sporting standards our boys achieve, but also for its warm, friendly atmosphere and our boys' support for each other and commitment to their community. At MTS we believe in the virtues of an all-round education that emphasises a rich sporting and cultural programme. MTS has always valued itself as an unpressured school where boys are free to grow and discover their own character through diverse sources of personal fulfilment. The Good School Guide notes: "The school’s philosophy... is about achievement without pressure: it’s a place to breathe and experience a childhood." The boys' academic success is a by-product of this search for personal fulfilment. In the 2007 league tables MTS was 3rd best boys' independent day school in the UK, which reflects the incredible hard work and enthusiasm shown by all our boys and teachers.

The boys enjoy superb facilities and a fantastic campus: 250 acres of lakes and countryside where Middlesex, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire meet, with over 55 acres devoted to sport. Boys travel in from Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Middlesex, yet the school is just 25 minutes from central London on the Metropolitan line and 10 minutes from both the M1 and M25. Many boys do come from our immediately surrounding areas: Northwood, Pinner and Rickmansworth. Many more take advantage of our coach services from Ealing, Radlett, Beaconsfield, Harrow, Mill Hill and Stanmore. Others come in from Hampstead or Amersham along the Metropolitan line. From this mix comes our unique school community in which every individual counts.  Which boys' school to choose is a vitally important question for a family and we urge all boys and parents who are thinking about applying to Merchant Taylors' to visit us, either at one of our Open Mornings or for an individual tour of the school and its facilities.

We hope you enjoy looking around our website and that it gives you a flavour of our life at Sandy Lodge.
