Numbers, Puzzles and Teamwork at the Prep Schools' Maths Afternoon

Taylors’ welcomed pupils from six local prep schools for an afternoon of mathematical challenge and fun. From problem-solving trails around the School to a fiercely contested inter-school quiz, the event celebrated teamwork, creativity and a shared love of maths – with Gayhurst taking the top spot after a thrilling finish!

Writes Simon Hardman, Head of Mathematics

On the Wednesday afternoon before half term six prep schools – The Beacon, Edge Grove, Gayhurst, Merchant Taylors’ Prep, St John’s and York House – sent groups of Year 5 and Year 6 pupils (accompanied by their teachers) to Taylors’ for the annual Prep Schools’ Maths Afternoon. Pupils went on a trail around the School, completing some maths problems on their way, before heading to the Dining Hall to work on some more.

The pinnacle of the day was the inter-school challenge round, involving two pupils from each school. After a closely-fought contest in which some challenging questions were elegantly answered by all pupils involved, a pupil representing Gayhurst narrowly came out on top.

Thanks to all the teachers who supported the day!
