For over 50 years, Phab has been a part of Taylors’ school culture. It brings together disabled and non-disabled people in a spirit of togetherness and fun. Phab is about inclusion, creating a space where everyone feels valued and supported. It is also about something just as important, but often less visible: giving families a moment to rest. For many parents of disabled children, Phab Week offers a rare opportunity for respite, knowing their children are not only safe, but thriving in an environment built on care and understanding.
The annual Phab Week is the culmination of months of fundraising and planning. This year's superhero-themed week was a great success, celebrating of courage, joy and inclusion.
From the first day, the school was transformed. The dining hall became a home base where everyone could simply enjoy being together, filled with a ball pit, bouncy castle, table football and Mario Kart on the big screen. Throughout the week, activities ranged from rocket launches in the Physics department, water fights with fire engines, a fantastic animal show, an Easter egg hunt, swimming sessions, and boat rides. Each activity brought a shared sense of excitement and belonging.
The iFly indoor skydiving trip was a highlight of the week for many. Stepping into the wind tunnel was a massive leap of faith, but the thrill of flying was truly incredible. The cheers that followed each flight were representative of the week’s inclusive atmosphere.

Back at school, U6th students David and Yuvraj organised tie-dye stations, where guests could design their own shirts, masks and capes to take home as memorabilia. It was a pleasure to have Electric Umbrella return to perform and run workshops, showing how music can be made accessible to all. Their performance of the original song “Acceptance” captured the spirit of the week perfectly, delivering a powerful message about understanding and inclusion.
The week had many unforgettable evenings. Karaoke and Bingo night, joined by the RMS Phab team, filled the school with music, laughter and a great buzz. On the final night, the drama studio was transformed into a vibrant disco floor with DJs and flashing lights, as the guests wearing superhero costumes danced with the team in their tie-dye shirts. As the night came to an end, the guests took the opportunity to deliver heartfelt and emotional speeches that left not a dry eye in the room – a moment that represented how much Phab means to them and to us.
None of this would have been possible without the extraordinary effort of the staff working behind the scenes. There are so many to thank: our catering team provided delicious meals throughout the week; local doctors generously gave their time to support our guests’ medical needs; and teachers dedicated countless hours to planning, fundraising and running the week itself. In particular, Mrs Hazan and Mrs Omert’s support is what makes Phab possible. The team cannot thank them enough.
For the students, Phab week is much more than just a volunteering experience. It is a lesson in empathy, patience and respect. It challenges assumptions, builds strong friendships and connections with the guests and their families, and leaves a lasting impact on everyone involved. While it can be demanding, it is without doubt one of the most rewarding experiences the school has to offer.
Phab week changes the lives of everyone who has the privilege to take part. It reminds us of how fortunate we are, to live in the present moment and the power of empathy and inclusion. Long may Phab continue at Taylors’.
