A-Level Spanish Pupils Shine at the XIII Hispanic Theatre Festival

Writes Theo M. (U6th)

A few of the Spanish A-Level boys enrolled in the XIII Hispanic Theatre festival, a long awaited and highly competitive event, highlighting the apex of Spanish culture and acting. The boys worked tirelessly to remember their lines and produce comedic acts to run alongside their Shakespearean-Spanish production.

As Merchant Taylors’ arrived at the bustling North London Collegiate School, nerves were high and tension at its peak. The boys showed their determination and fastidiousness, presenting a critical crowd (and panel of judges) with their act of “La Venganza de Don Mendo”. Albeit with some bumps in the road, the boys showed how resilient they were, throughout showing fortitude and adaptability.

After some gripping scenes from schools like Haberdashers and NLCS themselves, Merchant Taylors’ had a chance to see that the stakes were very high. Unfortunately, we were outmatched by many high-class performances, from world renowned films, and even those produced and directed by the students themselves. The boys showed true strength in their performance and acting capabilities and are thrilled with the experience they gained acting fluently in Spanish on stage.

Well done to all those involved, we are already looking forward to next year!
