Our Governing Body

The Governing Body provides strategic oversight, guidance, and support to ensure Merchant Taylors’ continues to thrive and deliver an outstanding education.

Governance and the Merchant Taylors’ Company

The Worshipful Company of Merchant Taylors of the Fraternity of St John Baptist in the City of London (the Company) founded the school in 1561 and the Merchant Taylors’ Educational Trust continues to be responsible to the Court of the Company for ensuring the due governance of Merchant Taylors’ School.

The Governing Body brings together representatives of the Merchant Taylors’ Company,  alongside leading figures from education, the professions, business, and the local community, together with the Chairman of the Old Merchant Taylors’ Society. Meetings are also attended by the Head Master, the Head of Merchant Taylors’ Prep School, the Bursar, some members of the Senior Leadership Team, and a representative of the teaching staff. The close relationship between the Merchant Taylors’ Company and the School has underpinned our success for 460 years, and it is our most earnest wish that this partnership will continue to flourish for generations to come.
