Annual U15 7s Tournament

On Sunday 2nd March, we hosted our third annual MTS U15 7s tournament on a gorgeous sunny day. Huge credit must go to our grounds team for the impeccable pitches despite recent rain. It was a wonderful competition, filled with some brilliant rugby by all eight schools.

At U15 level, the boys don’t have much experience of 7s which is a very different feeling to normal 15-a-side rugby. In spite of this, everyone made great progress as the day went on. In 7s, all of your skills are exposed by the sheer amount of space on offer and thanks to the space on the pitch, it is an exhausting sport to play.

Following the group stages we moved onto Semi-Finals and Finals in the Bowl and the Cup competitions. In the Cup, Berkhamsted retained their trophy, beating Eton College in a re-match from last year. St Joseph’s Ipswich came third, with Haileybury fourth. In the Bowl, it was our very own MTS who were victorious 33-22 against UCS, with Mill Hill third and Latymer Upper School fourth.

Our MTS boys adjusted well following a tough start against Eton College. A win against Latymer and a well contested loss to Berkhamsted saw us finish third in the group. A semi-final win over Mill Hill set us up to play UCS who had been rapidly improving too.

A huge credit must go to the whole squad. Noah B as Captain was excellent with his jinking footwork, Niccolo C made tackle after tackle, Satyen R smoothly moved the ball around the pitch giving us a real control whilst Demi O pace led to some outstanding scores. A mention must go also to U14s Leo B and Ajay B who were fantastic playing in the year above. The injured Shane Morrow was excellent in a coaching capacity, encouraging the boys and helping to run the substitutes.

MTS squad: Leo B, Archie P, Aarav K, William F, Pierce M, Noah K, Niccolo C, Josh A, Demi O, Ajay B, Emerson C, Shane M, Satyen R, Noah B.
