Breakfast at Downing Street

On Friday 29th November Miss Rittey was invited to attend a breakfast briefing at 10 Downing Street with the Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, and the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Wes Streeting. The briefing was part of a campaign by Movember to get the government to release a men’s health strategy, given that 2 in 5 men in the UK die prematurely.

writes Miss Rittey (Head of Spanish):

On average, a man born today has a life expectancy of four years less than a woman, and the suicide rate is three times higher for men than women. Thankfully, the government have now committed to launching their first ever Men’s Health Strategy, which marks a critical turning point in addressing preventable health issues.

I was invited to attend and share my story with the Prime Minister as a strong supporter of Movember and as a family member impacted by poor men’s health. It was an incredible opportunity to be able to share with the leaders of this country and be able to discuss what the priorities should be going forward.

Movember has long championed these issues and this progress signals a significant milestone for men’s health, which I am so proud to have played a role in.
