Bringing Our Book Characters to Lunch

Writes Amanda South, Senior Librarian

On Friday, our weekly book group planned their own book character lunch parties. Eashar S. (U3rd) and Alessandro G. (3rd) set the scene with readings about delicious food from Danny the Champion of the World and Wind in the Willows, while Gwilym H. (3rd) shared the quirkiness of the infamous Mad Hatter’s tea party.

There was a little double-booking, with invites issued to main characters from the Skulduggery Pleasant series by Derek Landy, Harry Potter and Tolkien stories. However, there were some outliers, including monsters and professors from classic horror and sci-fi novels, as well as more contemporary lunch guests such as Auggie from Wonder and Katniss from The Hunger Games.

Alexander B. (4ths helper) planned for the demise of his guests during lunch with a carefully selected menu, while Chase L. and Joshua A. (U3rds) both opted to spoil their diners with a feast of their favourite foods. Mrs South did her best to curb everyone’s appetites with an off-putting meal from the short story Licked by Paul Jennings, but the Book Boffz still managed to devour the ‘squashed fly’ and Queen of Hearts biscuits on offer.
