Development News

The Spring Term has been busy for the Development and Alumni Relations Team. As mentioned in Concordia, the impact of the addition of VAT to School fees is still being felt, and the bursaries committee recently met to award bursaries both to boys joining us as new starters in September, and as hardship assistance to boys already at the School. The Bursary decisions follow a busy and successful admissions cycle which has confirmed the number of pupils who will join Merchant Taylors’ in 2026.

As always, we would like to give our warmest thanks to every member of our community who has contributed to the provision of bursaries in any capacity. It remains a priority of the School to ensure access to our education is inclusive and available to pupils from a broad range of backgrounds, and to foster a more diverse, dynamic, and socially aware environment where different perspectives are valued and shared. This diversity strengthens both academic life and co-curricular activity, benefiting every pupil.

The Bursary Fund will feature heavily in our upcoming Telephone Campaign where boys from the Upper Sixth and recent leavers of the School will contact OMTs, parents, and friends to share their experiences of Merchant Taylors’ and help build support for projects that will positively impact the School. We will be recruiting 13 callers from the Upper Sixth and recent leavers from 2024 and 2025 who would like to make a positive contribution to the School community and gain active campaign experience. These are paid positions (over £700 in 2 weeks!) and applications open on Monday 13 April. You can apply via the link below.

This term we once again opened the Clubs and Societies Fund for applications, and received a large number of requests for support, with an impressive range of proposed activities. Among many others, the successful clubs include Archaeological Society, Chess Club, F1 Club, and Eco and Natural History Club. We look forward to seeing the results of their funded projects and hope to feature many of them in our 2026 edition of Concordia. These projects are only possible with support from those of you who have given to the Merchant Taylors’ Fund with an unrestricted gift to the Head Master’s Discretionary Fund, so thank you!

Progress is being made with our new website and online platform, Merchant Taylors’ Connect, and some of you may have already had the chance to test out some of its features while booking an event. Once fully operational, this site will give OMTs access to a much-improved mentoring and networking platform, and an exciting new hub for our activities. We are looking forward to rolling out our new site soon!

Thank you to everyone who has volunteered at the School this term, whether that is by helping at a Careers event, or by giving your time to help our pupils in another way – your generosity with your time is invaluable.

The School would not be what it is without the community around it. Thank you!
