Writes Valentina Kotsuba, Teacher of French
Madame Kostuba’s Divisions French sets had three lessons to study the material in preparation for the major speaking task – the Mayoral Elections, based on Module 4: Town and Country. They focused on the hypothetical structure Si + Imperfect / Conditional, as well as the Subjunctive after the Conditional. A wide range of set expressions was practiced in class, enabling pupils to develop a broad repertoire of points on the topic.
For the speaking assignment, pupils were required to memorize their candidate mayor speech. Elyaan J. even attended the French Clinic to improve his fluency. On election day, all pupils delivered their 1–2 minute speeches in front of the class, doing their best to convince the electors to vote for them. Confidence, voice projection, linguistic quality, and charisma were key elements that made certain speeches stand out.
Markus F., Adi A., Saayuj S., Thomas G., Krishaang B., Elyaan J., and Amit K. excelled in language quality and content development, while Ammar L.’s performance stood out for its charisma. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the lesson thanks to its unique format. It was the enthusiasm and diligence of the class that made such a lesson possible.
Merci à tous!
On Thursday 20th of November, Ms Kotsuba’s set [WC1] [LC2] [WC3] partook in a mayoral election where each student had to prepare a motion, in French, of why they should be the mayor. It was a display of French speaking skills, good pronunciation and confident delivery were key when attempting to prove themselves. This fun exercise helped to condition and prepare students for their speaking exam, and everyone was enthusiastic to present the argument. Many thanks to Ms Kotsuba, who prepared this interactive experience. Au revoir!
