On Sunday, the Fourth Form VEX IQ team, MTS Omni, delivered an outstanding performance at the Teatime New Year Special competition in Enfield, securing the top award of Teamwork Champions and qualifying for the UK National Finals.

Competing against strong opposition, the team produced a series of exceptional matches, culminating in a record-breaking score of 234 points in the Teamwork Challenge – the highest VEX IQ teamwork score recorded in the UK to date, and more than double that of the second-placed team. Across six matches, the boys demonstrated remarkable consistency, strategic awareness and technical skill, dominating almost every round.

Reflecting on the competition, the team described it as one of their most memorable VEX IQ experiences. By effectively utilising their 180-degree mechanism alongside the beam, they steadily increased their average scores throughout the day. Heading into the final match, the pressure was high, but going last proved to be an advantage, allowing them to calculate precisely what was needed to win. After successfully executing a 110-point standoff goal stack, the sense of relief – followed by the applause from the audience – confirmed what they already knew: they were going to Nationals.

Well done to all involved!
