Last Saturday, our VEX V5RC teams MTS_Andromeda and MTS_1NNOVA represented Merchant Taylors’ at the NLCS VEX Regional Competition. The competition was tough, but both teams performed exceptionally well.
MTS_Andromeda achieved an impressive 7-1-0 Win-Loss-Tie record, finishing 3rd overall out of 15 teams, while MTS_1NNOVA delivered a strong performance – an excellent result considering it was only their second VEX V5RC competition. In the Robot Skills Challenge, MTS_Andromeda scored 51 points in driver control and 15 points in autonomous, securing 1st place overall. MTS_1NNOVA followed closely behind with a strong combined score of 40 points, showing great progress and teamwork.
After an exhilarating finals match, MTS_Andromeda, allied with Team ‘Floccy’ (Floccinaucinihilipilification) from Stowe School, earned the Tournament Champions title with a narrow 66–58 victory.
Having already qualified for the 2025 VEX World Championships last season, MTS_Andromeda aimed for an early qualification to the 2026 National Championships – and they succeeded. After weeks of balancing late-night robot tuning with GCSE work, the team’s hard work paid off well, earning the Tournament Champions, Skills Champions, and Excellence Awards – the highest honours of the event.
Lastly, we would like to thank the School’s DT department for making all of this possible and supporting us throughout our VEX journey so far.
