It is rather hard as Co-Chair of Medicine and Dentistry Society to do anything but praise our society – but we appreciate that our view is not always objective! Therefore, to avoid any potential bias you might think exists in our articles (after all, we are always going on about how good our club is), we thought we would ask some club members for their honest views on Medicine and Dentistry Society, and whether they enjoyed the suturing session.

The suturing at Medicine and Dentistry Society is one of the most fun and useful things I have ever done at any club! With Pranay, Daro (L6th) and Veer’s awesome and clear guidance on how to suture, I have gone from an absolute amateur to begin to become a suturing pro! These skills will hopefully become of great importance to me in my future medical career. I absolutely cannot wait for the next suturing session, where we will be suturing an actual lamb’s heart (a thing some Imperial students can’t do until 4th year) and I’m super excited to see what else Medicine and Dentistry Society (the best Society I have ever gone to) has to offer for the rest of the year.
Thanks Pranay, Veer and Daro for organising this for us!
Karim O. (5ths)
Over the past two weeks, I have had the privilege of taking part in the Medicine and Dentistry Society’s suturing sessions. Just a few weeks ago, I was drawn in by the society’s eye-catching posters around school, which certainly lived up to the high standard set last year.
During the first session, we received an excellent introduction from Daro B. He carefully explained the safety measures we needed to follow, as we were working with surgical-grade medical equipment. He then demonstrated how to handle sutures and tie different knots with great skill and clarity. Before long, we were confidently practising on our suture pads and were truly immersed in the activity.
In the second week, we continued to develop the skills we had learned. I was placed at Pranay’s table, where he gave us a brief yet informative recap of the previous week’s techniques. After completing several sutures on the practice pad, I was given the opportunity to try suturing a banana — a real test of precision and control. On my first attempt, I accidentally snapped the suture while pulling the cut together. On my second attempt, I went too deep into the banana skin. However, after watching a clear demonstration by Pranay, I tried again and successfully completed a knot.
I would like to thank everyone who organised these sessions for making them both informative and enjoyable. They provided the perfect balance of learning and hands-on practice. I am now looking forward to next week’s session: suturing a lamb’s heart.
