Bookings are now open for Easter Phab Week 2026, taking place from 28 March to 1 April. We would be delighted to hear from families, organisations or individuals who know a young person aged 13-19 with physical or learning disabilities who may benefit from this unique residential experience.
For more than half a century, Phab Week has been a cherished part of life at Merchant Taylors’ School. Now in its 54th year, the residential programme brings young people with physical and learning disabilities together for an inclusive, confidence-building experience away from home.
Hosted annually on the school site, the week is designed to foster independence, friendship and personal growth through a wide range of activities, from swimming and horse riding to arts and crafts, animal encounters and social events. Fully accessible accommodation and adaptive equipment ensure that every guest is able to take part confidently and fully.
Just as importantly, Phab Week creates a genuine sense of community. Barriers fall away, friendships form quickly, and guests, carers and student volunteers share an uplifting and joyful experience. For families and carers, the week also offers valuable reassurance and a rare opportunity for rest, knowing their young person is safe, supported and thriving.
Guests are supported throughout the week by a dedicated team of medical professionals and teaching staff, alongside Sixth Form hosts from Years 12 and 13. These students receive specialist training in safeguarding, first aid and moving and handling, and many return year after year, passing on their experience and forming friendships that often last well beyond Phab Week itself.
For many Merchant Taylors’ pupils, the experience is defining. Sixth Former Owen S. explains why.
There’s nothing I’ve enjoyed more during my time at Merchant Taylors’ than the annual Phab Week residential, and I’m excited to take part once again this year! I look back fondly at my experiences from last year, from forming strong friendships with the Phab team members and guests, to enjoying a packed schedule of activities – including bowling, horse riding, powerboat rides and a disco at the end of the week. Having experienced it for myself in 2025, I have even more excitement for this year. Phab gives both students and guests a break from the usual flow of school life, but more importantly it gives the guests’ carers an opportunity for some valuable downtime. It is a programme I cannot recommend highly enough. Having been part of the school community for over 50 years, I can say with real conviction that it stands out as one of the most meaningful and enriching areas of school life, and I am certain many OMTs would say the same.
