Every year, approximately 150 pupils join our Sixth Form; the majority have been with the School for many years – and almost all of our Fifth Form progress into our Lower Sixth – but we are also privileged to welcome new joiners who quickly make their mark.
Sixth Form is a time of great opportunities for personal growth: we hope that our pupils will throw themselves into our countless academic societies and play leading roles in shaping and managing these; that they will challenge themselves in musical ensembles, on the stage and on our expansive playing fields. We hope that all will give back to our community, both here at School and outside our gates. These opportunities allow all of our Sixth Formers to plot their own routes; all, though, grow as scholars and as people, and leave ready to make their mark on the world.
Leadership Opportunities
Each and every one of our Sixth Formers leads in setting the tone and culture of the School. Sometimes this happens quietly in our vertical tutor groups, and sometimes in more obvious ways such as via inspiring talks to a rugby team during our famous Friday Night Lights encounters. Our pupils lead academic societies, lead their Houses and lead orchestras. They lead, too, in charitable endeavours, not least through driving the wonderful Phab Week, looking after children with profound disabilities as full-on carers.
Some are called to serve the community via membership of the prefect body as Prompters or Monitors; these are august offices dating back to at least 1702 and distinguished by special ties. These, though, are only the most visible leaders.
