Learning in the Sixth Form is different. Small classes facilitate seminar-style discussions led by the pupils’ curiosity. A Level specifications are covered, but the magic lies in the everyday moments when these are put to one side and questions lead to discussion and debate.
Merchant Taylors’ Sixth Formers are confident users of the latest technology for learning, but just as ready to set it aside in pursuit of deeper thinking – whether immersing themselves in a poem, a philosophical tome, or a practical investigation in the lab.
Through these lessons, and the independent study that underpins them, pupils are not only prepared to secure places at leading universities, but – more importantly – to thrive when they arrive.
The Sixth Form is a time to look forward, and much care and attention is taken to prepare each pupil for life beyond School. University applications are guided by experienced subject specialists who offer expert advice on course selection and provide detailed support with personal statements and references. Those applying to overseas universities have bespoke support from a specialist member of staff. Applicants for increasingly popular and prestigious Degree Apprenticeships are advised by our outstanding Careers Department.
Preparation for life beyond higher education continues apace in the Sixth Form. Our Future Ready Programme helps pupils sharpen their aspirations, develop professional skills, and prepares them for winning roles and then thriving in the workplace. This might involve one-to-one sessions with career specialists, talks from prominent professionals in a wide range of industries, interview practice using cutting-edge AI tools, and personal insights from members of our ever-supportive OMT network.
Every Sixth Former has access to these opportunities, and many more, as they take confident steps towards the future.
