It was a super early start for MTS_MAVER1CKS and MTS INNOVA heading to SLBS in Kent for the V5RC competition. Leaving in the early hours before sunrise, a 2-hr journey followed, complimented by a lot of napping and last minute notebooking, before we reached SLBS and geared up for the competition.
Setting up in our designated areas, our bots were quickly ready for inspection, with only minor issues to iron out. The competition started with some warmup practice rounds, followed by qualification matches. Each team had eight matches and were doing well, especially when both Merchant Taylors’ teams were allied together, scoring a tremendous 72-16 win.
Along the way (despite experiencing a lot of robot issues) MTS_MAVER1CKS pulled along, determined to fix the problems. The first five qualification matches were strong, winning by a large margin, however, this was followed with three close loses.
After alliance selection (where they were teamed up with 2nd seed), team 46037D Short Circuit, won the quarter and semi-finals, allowing them to progress to the finals.
Furthermore, MTS_INNOVA won six out of eight rounds with very close results. They then allied with team 1197Z, CHAOS, but sadly lost their first elimination match.
For MTS_MAVER1CKS, after a challenging finals match where they were defeated by teams Error 404 and The Empire, they left as tournament finalists.
MTS_MAVER1CKS got an impressive total skills score of 91, allowing them to bring home the Robot Skills Award, once again claiming the lead on the UK Middle School V5 Skills Rankings Board.
Another competition awaits on Saturday 29th at Greig Academy. Good luck to all attending.
