Under 15s Cricket Team Reach National Final!

The U15A cricket team are now in the final two teams in the country, after defeating King’s College Taunton by 130 runs! This means they will progress to the England Schools’ Cricket Association National Cup. A competition that hundreds of the top sports schools in the country enter every year. The final will be played at Oakham School on Tuesday 8th July against the winner of Trent College and Bromsgrove School. This is a wonderful achievement for the boys; truly deserved after a long winter of early morning training and hard work!

After winning the toss and batting first, Captain Aaditya S. and Adam K. weathered an impressive opening bowling spell from the Taunton bowlers, setting a watchful base of 74-1 after 20 overs. It was now time for Aaditya S. to surge his attack, taking one of the Taunton seamers for 25 in one over, launching sixes to all parts of the Taylors’ ground. With useful aggressive contributions from Abhi S., Raahil K. and Rishi M., Merchant Taylors’ reached a competitive total of 244 from their 40 overs, supported by well thought out help from Zak F. at the back end of the innings.

The King’s Taunton players were ready for a fight and came out with some very impressive intent and strokeplay, which was quickly halted by an incredible spell of bowling from Levin C., which included a swinging delivery that removed the leg stump of the Taunton side’s most destructive player. This was backed up by impressive control and wickets from Duke M. at the other end. The Kings Taunton innings was wrapped up seamlessly by the magical legspin of Adam K., taking 4 wickets, while the suffocating control of Roshan L. created consistency at the other end. Taylors’ ended up restricting the visitors to just 114 runs.

Well done to all of the boys involved and good luck in the final!
