Work Experience Trip in Austria

This particular trip is a unique blend of a language course combined with work experience, set against the historic town hall of Klagenfurt.

Writes Ms Udell

Our MTS students were working for the Mayor of Klagenfurt, Christian Scheider, and his team of governors, counsellors etc. Some of the departments included Environment and Climate Improvements, Planning and Building Regulations, Architecture, Museum and Galleries and Citizenship (amongst others).

This trip is special as our boys have not only the opportunity to speak German in a German speaking country, but they can also use, practise and improve their German in a workplace. Their work is challenging, demanding translations and summaries in the target language but is undoubtedly also highly rewarding. That said, German language was not limited to the workplace! In fact, the Mayor (a champion in tennis) even played tennis with one of our boys.

At the end of the week, our boys were in the local newspaper receiving their certificates for a fantastic week of work experience in the town hall of Klagenfurt, Austria.

The trip has been a success for many years and I am immensely grateful to my home town, as without them, it could not happen. I was privileged to receive a special award this year, Der gläserne Lindwurm, for thirty five years of fostering the relationship between Klagenfurt and my schools in the UK. Thank you, Mrs Castro for accompanying the trip with your usual support, hard work ethic and kindness.
