Writes Rian S. (U3rds) and Riyen T. (4ths)
The Minds Underground Challenge is a national essay writing competition aimed at students 14 and under, which encourages us to use and develop our skills of creative writing, researching and working under pressure.
First, we had to pick a topic, before we started researching. I used websites such as Britanica School for this, since it gives very reliable and useful information. Next, I drafted my first essay. This was the hardest part, but I pushed through and finally had a finished draft. I finally asked for feedback from fellow peers and teachers to help me make the essay the best it could be. I then submitted my completely finished essay.
Participating in the Minds Underground Essay Challenge has been a transformative experience that has helped me grow both intellectually and personally. Through the process of researching and drafting, I have developed stronger critical thinking skills and learned how to approach complex topics with greater depth and clarity. It has pushed me to question my assumptions, consider multiple perspectives, and articulate my thoughts in a more structured and persuasive way.
In conclusion, I highly recommend taking part in next year’s challenge since it will really help develop your skills personally, and academically.
To produce my entry for the Minds Underground Essay Competition I undertook a series of steps. These tasks included choosing from the three prompts provided and to plan the structure and ideas to make writing efficient. Then I refined and edited my work for mistakes or areas for improvement. This experience revealed the importance of planning as well as time management and distributing the workload over multiple days. Furthermore, I found that revisiting your work the next day often increased my flow as well as my efficiency.
I was eventually left with an essay I was proud of!
