Writes Cheryl Clarke, Director of Drama
This week, internationally renowned theatre company Frantic Assembly ran a Physical Theatre Workshop with GCSE Drama boys in Divisions in the Studio Theatre.
The company’s ethos is built around collaboration, innovation and risk-taking. These are skills we value highly here at Merchant Taylors’, and it was an excellent opportunity for our pupils to explore these in a physical environment.
The Workshop was led by the Movement Captain on the UK and International Tour for The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. Having watched the Joint Senior Production of the same play in school last year as part of their Fourth Form Curriculum Drama Course, the boys were able to find and explore interesting links between what they did in their workshop and what they saw onstage.
The boys rose to the challenge, throwing themselves into the practical exercises with energy and commitment. They will now look to implement some of the concepts and skills in their upcoming GCSE Drama Devising Exam project.
