Writes Amanda South, Senior Librarian
Over the summer holidays, the Library invited current pupils and those joining us in this term to unleash their creativity and design, compose, model, or write something of their choice based on a book they had read.
The librarians judged dozens of truly creative entries across the year groups, and the prize-winners have now been presented with their certificates and vouchers.
Devan G. (4th) won the prize for model making with an intricate, articulated and light-up automaton based on The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick. He also received a runner-up prize for musical composition, a piano piece to accompany his model.
Krish A. (4th) was the winner of the musical composition prize, with his rap inspired by Uglies, the Scott Westerfield series. This was submitted as a striking music video. He was also highly commended for his Top Gun stop-motion video.
Leo M. (U3rd) won the artwork prize with an extract from Jaws by Peter Benchley presented as a hand drawn comic strip.
Avyan G. (4th) submitted a beautifully crafted paper stop-motion video of the butterfly’s day, an imagined sequel to The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle. This won top prize in the film and animation category.
Venice at Night, an atmospheric poem by Hugo G. (3rd) based of Cornelia Funke’s book The Thief Lord took first prize for Creative Writing.
Other runners-up prizes were awarded to Dhevan B. (U3rd) and Sunny K. (U3rd) for artwork, Joshua A. (U3rd) and Kamran C. (3rd) for model making, Ethan D. (4th) for musical composition, Aiden W.
