We are delighted to share that the School has been awarded the national Quality in Careers Standard, fully meeting all accreditation criteria incorporating the Gatsby Benchmarks. This achievement, gained through the rigorous Investor in Careers assessment, recognises the exceptional quality, depth, and impact of our careers guidance at every stage of school life.
The award, held for three years, is one of the UK’s most respected acknowledgements of excellence in careers education. To earn it, schools must demonstrate high-quality provision across a wide range of areas, including:
- Independent and impartial guidance
- Robust links with employers and universities
- A well-structured careers curriculum
- Comprehensive support for pupils at key transition points
- Clear pathways for every pupil, whatever their aspirations
At Merchant Taylors’, careers education is not a one-off event but a carefully curated journey. From Lower School exploration to tailored support for university and apprenticeship preparation in Sixth Form, our programme ensures that every pupil develops the confidence, knowledge, and skills to navigate an ever-changing future.
The assessors praised the clarity of our careers curriculum, the breadth of employer encounters, the strength of our one-to-one guidance, and the personalised mentoring pupils receive as they consider their next steps.
This award also is the result of a collective effort. Our Careers Team, academic staff, alumni partners, visiting speakers, and many organisations who generously support our pupils through talks, insight days, work experience, and professional mentoring. The assessors noted that the School’s strong culture of aspiration, combined with its commitment to guiding each pupil towards the right pathway, is a defining strength of our provision.
We are enormously proud to receive the Quality in Careers Standard. Our aim is to always offer each pupil a careers journey that is truly individual – ambitious, personal and grounded in real-world insight. This recognition shows the difference that approach makes, and we’ll continue to support each pupil as they explore the pathway that’s right for them.
