It has become much more challenging to get work experience in European countries in a post-Brexit landscape. As such, my long-standing working relationship with the Mayor of Klagenfurt and his team is an incredibly exciting one, as it has facilitated Taylors’ students working in the various departments within the town hall for many summers – and all in German! The students are placed within areas such as Environment, Town Planning and International Public Relations, gaining a breadth of experience across the sector as well as brushing up on their language skills.
In our down time, we explore the rich layers of culture Klagenfurt, as well as indulging its wonderful cuisine. Watching the World Cup on a big screen in the heart of the town was particularly memorable! On their last day of work, we were invited to a reception with the Mayor of Klagenfurt, where the boys are being rewarded for their effort with official certificates.
This trip is a unique opportunity for our boys to practice speaking German and improving their knowledge of spoken Grammar, whilst, at the same time learning more about work for their futures.
I can only whole heartedly thank the Mayor of Klagenfurt, Christian Scheider for inviting us back year after year. The regular success of this trip is a testament to the excellence of our boys, of whom I am very proud. Well done to all involved and thank you, Klagenfurt, my hometown.
