Writes Ruby Millard, Assistant Librarian
To mark National Storytelling Week and continue events marking the National Year of Reading, the Thirds and Upper Thirds were joined by the Prep School for a visit from world-renowned storyteller Ben Haggarty. Throughout the session last Wednesday, Haggarty captivated the boys with myths and legends from across the globe, bringing each tale to life with energy and warmth.
At one point, he declared, “I’m looking at you, you’re looking at me,” highlighting the unique connection between storyteller and listener. Ultimately, this exchange lies at the heart of every compelling narrative. He went on to remind the boys that stories encourage reflection and imagination: there are always different paths to take and choices to consider.
Arnish V. (3rds) writes:
Ben Haggarty spoke about three different stories, and each one was interesting in its own way. He told them with energy and detail, which kept the audience engaged from start to finish. The stories weren’t just entertaining, but also meaningful, as each one carried a clear lesson about life, choices, and understanding others. By the end, it was easy to see how the stories connected to real experiences and why they stayed in people’s minds. Overall, his storytelling showed how powerful stories can be when they teach as well as entertain.
Storytelling will continue in the Library on Friday 13th February with Storytelling Club. All students are invited to come along and share a story of their own.
Remember to Go All In this year for the National Year of Reading.
