Merchant Taylors’ School was delighted to take part in the annual Howard Cup, hosted by the Old Merchant Taylors’ at Sandy Lodge Golf Club. It was wonderful to see around 20 pupils competing, making for a highly enjoyable and competitive day of golf.
The event provided an excellent opportunity for aspiring golfers from across the School to test themselves in a competitive environment, gain valuable experience, and build friendships through a shared passion for the sport. The Handicap Competition in particular showcased the breadth of talent within the School, with plenty of excellent golf and memorable shots on display, alongside no shortage of smiles. Our pupils really relished the challenge and camaraderie of the occasion.
The Handicap Competition was won impressively by Jonah R-S. (Fifths), whose excellent performance saw him claim top spot in a strong field. In the Scratch Competition – the premier contest of the day – Seven H. (L6ths) produced a superb round of level par to secure victory. The standard of golf throughout the field was exceptionally high, with Pranay P. and Nick C. (U6ths) also recording outstanding scores of one over par and two over par respectively.
Beyond the competition itself, the day highlighted the strong and enduring relationship between current pupils and the Old Merchant Taylors’. Merchant Taylors’ School would like to extend its sincere thanks to the OMTs for hosting the event and for their continued support of golf at the School. We are also extremely grateful for the incredibly generous prizes they provided, which helped make the occasion even more memorable for all those involved.
The Howard Cup continues to be a fantastic fixture in the sporting calendar, offering pupils the chance to compete at an outstanding venue while strengthening connections across the wider Merchant Taylors’ community.
