Third Form Reading Journey Continues into 2026

Writes Ruby Millard, Assistant Librarian

The Third Form Reading Journey has been going brilliantly since its launch in November. Librarians have had over 200 discussions with students about the books they’ve been reading, from non-fiction books on Formula 1 to classics like Treasure Island to popular series like Alex Rider.

This week we are also delighted to say a genre line has been completed in full for the first time. Congratulations to Pranith N. (3rds) for completing every station on the Adventure & Thriller line. We hope this will be the first of many prizes to be awarded.

Pranith N. (3rds) writes:

The Reading Journey challenge has been absolutely excellent so far! Not only does it encourage us to read more books, but it adds a tinge of excitement to something as normal as reading. It has really emphasised the importance of not underestimating the power of reading, and it has helped me in a wide variety of ways, including: increasing my vocabulary; educating me on how language was different in different times; and providing me with a healthy, enjoyable way to wind down.

I would like to thank Mrs. Millard, Mrs. South, and all the other dedicated librarians who make the library an enjoyable space to be in and thank them again for creating and organising such an amazing and innovative competition.

The idea of travelling on literary tube lines by reading books is simply genius. It transforms every book into a station, every finished genre into a completed line, and the whole experience into a collaborative adventure. It has made me look forward to every opportunity to pick up a book, knowing I’m getting one stop closer to my destination. Thank you once again for making this challenge such a stimulating and rewarding part of our school life. I’m already eager to finish my next line!

What else is to come?

2026 launches the National Year of Reading. A UK-wide campaign led by the Department for Education and the National Literacy Trust, aiming to boost reading for pleasure across all ages. Its theme, Go All In, encourages everyone to dive into the things they already love, whether sport, music, film or gaming, by exploring them through reading.

As well as continuing the Third Form Reading Journey the library will be running events across the year to celebrate, we hope that Taylors’ staff, students and parents alike will ‘go all in’ and make 2026 their year of reading.
